Limbo’s Distraction

LimboIsReal is a soflo rapper that just dropped his first solo project: "distracted".

Read the meaning behind each track while listening to the album, below.

Distracted is Limbo’s personal inner battle with constantly procrastinating. The songs talk about different things that have stayed on his mind through the creative process of this project, such as self-doubt, fake people, relationships, death or paranoia.

The inspiration for this album comes from wanting to create a personal solo project with a theme.

“One day I felt I had to get shit off my chest and just freestyled.”

Limbo says War was the first song and the one that set the tone for the whole album. All the other songs came to life when he felt distracted and the need to do something, because he would feel left behind by the people he looks up to in the scene.

'Distracted' is LimboIsReal's first solo album.

“it took me a little over a year to make ‘Distracted’ just because of actually BEING Distracted, and having to experience life and certain situations to be able to write about them.”

“The rabbit spirit animal is associated with creativity. I made the mask to remind me whenever I’m stuck in a creative rut, I need to move in an unexpected direction to bring out a positive change from it.“

CestLaViePrelude

is the calm before the storm. LimboIsReal is back.

Distracted

starts off in third person, questioning if he’s ever wondered what life would be like if he stopped daydreaming and woke up.

"Sometimes being distracted is a getaway from reality. I feel like distractions or being distracted is negatively interpreted, but it's necessary in order to learn and grow as an individual, or to relax and hold onto hope."

Limbo admits that when he daydreams, he’s thinking of his life down the road and all the things he dreams of accomplishing.

NegativeEmotions’

first verse talks about Limbo's ability to "put on a facade and block out most negative emotions from the public eye", helping him deal with judgement and hate that people express with no argument.

"I've had my fair share of experiences, but I brace it with a mask on every day."

After the chorus, he calls out people who wear facades with the sole purpose of harming or manipulating others.

Spazz

is the typical catchy song you would hear in a party, but that actually talks about struggling with depression and substance abuse.

“They was never ‘round me when I fell and needed help. Now I’m in the trenches at the War all by myself.”

RestlessInterlude

“I’m at a party and thinking I probably shouldn’t be”

are the first lines of this song that expresses the thoughts going through Limbo’s head in the party where his previous song Spazz is playing.

This is one of the most personal tracks in Distracted. Limbo confesses it represents him being stressed and having insomnia over feeling like everyone in his life keeps moving forward but him, like he’s being left behind.

WhereWeAtNow?

expresses Limbo feeling let down by other people and not knowing what’s expected of him.

"I give so much to others and it’s still not enough, energy is never reciprocated. Is there something wrong with me? I don’t know where we’re at."

○ ○ ○

DontYouWait4Me

talks about letting go of an unwanted relationship to try to improve as a person, while being perceived as the bad guy. There are no bad intentions, but shit happens. “I just want to let go and be Limbo.”

“Make peace with the message I leave, I’m truly sorry for the way that I’ve been”

○ ○ ○

Running

is a song about paranoia of the unknown and what’s not promised, until finally surrendering and accepting whatever comes your way. “Can’t get much done when there’s paranoia on your mind.”

“I don’t know what from but I’ve been running my whole life.”

“War

is an ode to a friend that passed away.”

Life is such a foreign concept for us all, yet we all live in it. “I’ve helped countless people just to see them be defeated again and again by the universe. It sucks.” Limbo says sometimes the only plausible solution is to “go out there guns blazin’, and whatever happens happens.”

“days like this is making my stomach ache. Only way to win war is to reach point break.”

“CloseUrEyes

is my personal favorite song on the album.”

This is the closing of the journey. After going problem after problem, this is a nice reminder to just “slow down, take it easy, close your eyes and breathe.”

AllTheWrongThings

Heavily inspired by Mac Miller's ‘So It Goes’, the outro on the last album he released before passing, this song is an interpretation of what Limbo imagines Miller would have told him if they had ever met. “Death hit me real hard. Mac Miller’s hurt a lot and still does. He was the one I always drew inspiration from and looked up to.” His death happened within a couple months of Limbo’s friend’s, who inspired War.

Miller’s death crushed Limbo’s dream of ever meeting him, but when putting himself in that scenario, the chorus of this song came to live. “I told him all the problems I’ve got stored inside my head, then I pictured me saying this to a girl. Something to ease your mind. Let’s not worry about today’s problems, instead let’s focus on simply smiling!”

Mac Miller’s ‘Swimming’ outro, ‘So It Goes’ was a strong influence to the beat and creation of this song.

“I’ve been waiting a while just to see you smile, ‘cause you worry ‘bout all the wrong things in life.”

The outro of this song is a raw voice recording from months after the original song was finished. “I found myself playing with the keyboard in my room one day and I made the little jingle.” He started freestyling some verses, then wrote some others down and decided to record it all straight in the voice memos of his phone. “I didn’t want it to sound too professional. I'd rather keep the spirit of the song and just enjoy what I was making how I was making it.”

“RollCallAfterlude

The transition from AllTheWrongThings to RollCallAfterlude just gives the whole album a “life is tough but it’s all gonna be okay” vibe.

“I see it as the credits screen after watching a good movie with a happy ending and this is the instrumental playing in the background.”

Limbo’s self concept is really simple: Trying to do or be something you’ve never seen before.

“Why not a tall lanky man wearing a creepy bunny mask? If it’s good music might as well give them something to look at too, right?”

LimboIsReal’s Distracted album is a journey through the different emotions that he has experienced and written about, showing us we are valid for feeling them as well. After having been through so much, the best answer is to just let life happen and smile.

Congratulations, LimboIsReal, on an amazing masterpiece.
